It doesn’t matter where you live, you are going to need to get from one point to another. In some cases, it may be your morning commute to work or perhaps traveling for business purposes to an outside area. In addition, there may also be times when you need to travel longer distances, and different types of transportation may be necessary in those cases. If you live in the state of Tennessee or plan on visiting the area, you have many transportation options available.
The primary ways to get around in the state of Tennessee are on the highway, railroad, air transportation and water transportation. These can be found in many areas of the state, but the focal points for those types of transportation are in Nashville, Knoxville, Memphis and Tennessee. After all, those 4 areas of the state have important waterways and rivers as well as highways that travel through the area. Major airlines can also be found at the airports in those cities as well.
One of the more important ways of transportation, historically speaking, is the railroad. It is still used for the transportation of people and products, but it has declined in recent years. In Tennessee, railroad building got its start in the early 1800s. The area of Tennessee was linked by the 20th century with the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. This not only linked those two areas to each other, it also gave easy access to areas outside of the state and to other cities, including Charleston and Memphis.
The Natchez Trace was one of the first roads constructed in Nashville. What is interesting is that this road, along with many of the other roads that were constructed early in the 1800s, were constructed by private individuals. They often used Indian trails as the basis for their direction, because they were already laid out in an area that was easy to transverse. When the automobile came into existence, additional highways and roads were constructed to meet the growing need.
These are only some of the many different ways of getting around within the state of Tennessee and in traveling to other states as well. More than likely, you take advantage of more than one of those options, either on a frequent or an infrequent basis. One thing is certain, we can be happy that it is easy to get around in the state, because then we can take advantage of all it has to offer.
